In many Danish cities, concrete blocks are still being used to secure squares and streets. While this might seem like a quick fix, it comes with challenges:

• Concrete blocks are rarely certified, and therefore do not provide the documented level of protection required against a vehicle attack.

• They often weigh less than 8 tons, which means they do not comply with international standards.

• They send a signal of a “temporary patch” and break with the cozy atmosphere that Christmas markets are meant to create.
